Why I Started Writing with the Holy Spirit

I began writing with the Holy Spirit after the encouragement of a spiritual leader. The idea was simple. Sit at my desk, become quiet, and wait patiently for Him.

So I did.

I sat there with expectancy, pen in hand, waiting.

And He met me.

He would speak, and I would write. There was something beautiful about giving Him that time. It drew me closer to Him and created a place between us.

What fascinated me most was how poetic our time together was.

I wasn't trying to write poetry. It was simply the way the words came. Then I looked back at letters I had written thirty years ago, and saw the same thing.

They were poetic too.

It was as though I discovered something that had always been there.

This was our language. This was how we danced together. And now we were dancing together on paper.

I don't always come to Him feeling strong or spiritual. I have come broken, hurting, and so wrapped up in my own anger that I wondered if I would even be able to hear Him.

But He met me there too.

He didn't wait for me to get everything together first. I came as I was, sat before Him, and waited.

And He was there.

There have been beautiful moments of pure joy, when His presence takes me somewhere deeper. A place where I just want to sit with Him in the garden and tarry there awhile.

These writings are very personal to me because they came from those moments with Him.

By sharing them, I am letting you into a private place between the Holy Spirit and me. But I hope you don't only read my words.

I hope they make you want to discover your own.

Find your quiet place. Sit before Him with expectancy. Give Him time. Let Him show you how He speaks to your heart.

Your language with Him may be completely different from mine.

Mine just happens to be poetic.

It's where we dance together on paper.

And I hope these writings encourage you to find that beautiful place where you and the Holy Spirit meet too.
