How do you hear from God?

Hearing His voice isn't about learning a secret formula. It's about learning His heart.

One of my favorite verses is

Proverbs 1:23:

"If you will turn (repent) and give heed to my reproof... I will pour out My Spirit upon you; I will make My words known to you."

Think about that for a moment.

God isn't saying, "Maybe I'll speak to you." He says, "I will make My words known to you." That is a promise.

The book of Proverbs was written to instruct us in wisdom and to help us understand the ways of God. Every one of us needs more wisdom. We need understanding. We need discernment. We need justice, judgment, and equity. We need His perspective instead of our own.

So why do so many people struggle to hear Him?

I don't believe it's because God has stopped speaking.

I think it's because we often come to Him wanting answers before we want Him.

There have been seasons in my own life when I cried out to God because I wanted Him to fix what was broken. I wanted Him to remove the pain, answer my questions, or change my circumstances. But over the years, I've discovered something even greater.

He wasn't just trying to solve my problems.

He was inviting me into a deeper relationship.

Jeremiah 29:13 tells us that we will find Him when we seek Him with all our hearts. God knows the difference between someone who simply wants out of a difficult situation and someone who genuinely wants Him.

That doesn't mean we have to be perfect.

It means our hearts become surrendered.

I've learned that hearing God is much like any close relationship. The more time you spend with someone, the more familiar their voice becomes. My sheep know My voice wasn't meant to create pressure. It was meant to give us confidence. As we continue to walk with our Shepherd, we begin to recognize how He leads, corrects, comforts, and speaks.

Sometimes His voice comes through His Word.

Sometimes it comes as a quiet knowing that settles deep within your spirit.

Sometimes He gently corrects you.

Sometimes He gives you wisdom you know didn't come from your own thinking.

And sometimes...

He simply invites you to wait.

Waiting doesn't mean He isn't speaking.

Often, He is preparing your heart to receive what He has already promised to do in your life.

The Lord is ready and willing to pour out His Spirit on anyone who turns toward Him. We don't have to convince Him to love us or persuade Him to speak. He already desires to reveal Himself.

The question has never been whether God wants to speak.

The question is whether we are willing to slow down, surrender our own understanding, and truly seek Him with all our hearts.

Our God still speaks.

He always has.

And He always will.
