Trusting God in the Darkness

Faith is not the absence of darkness. Faith is the confidence that, even in the darkness, God is still at work. When you can lie down in peace while the storm is still raging, you are declaring that your trust is not in your circumstances but in the God who never sleeps.

"In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." — Psalm 4:8

There is something powerful about a person who can sleep in the middle of a storm.

Psalm 4 paints a picture of a world where the ungodly mocked God and those who followed Him. David was surrounded by people who questioned him, opposed him, and sought to shame him. Yet David's confidence was not in his circumstances. It was in the character of God.

Instead of allowing fear to consume him, David did something remarkable. He lay down and slept.

Why?

Because he knew that while he rested, God never did.

Trusting God in the darkness is not pretending the darkness doesn't exist. David knew the danger was real. He knew people were against him. He knew the uncertainty of what tomorrow could bring. Yet he also knew something greater: God was with him.

How often do we lie awake replaying every problem, every conversation, every fear of the future? We search for answers that only God can provide. We try to carry burdens that were never meant for our shoulders.

David chose a different path.

He surrendered.

Sleep became an act of faith. Closing his eyes was his way of saying, "Lord, I trust You more than I trust my ability to figure this out."

Sometimes the greatest demonstration of faith isn't found in what we do. It's found in what we release into God's hands.

If you find yourself walking through a dark season today, remember that the same God who watched over David watches over you. The darkness may hide what is ahead, but it never hides you from God's sight. He sees every tear, hears every prayer, and knows every battle you face.

Your peace does not have to come from having all the answers. It comes from knowing the One who holds every answer.

Tonight, choose to do what David did.

Lay your worries before the Lord.

Release what you cannot control.

Rest in His promises.

The God who guarded David while he slept is still guarding His children today.
