Yes, that’s right… On July 15th, my son Trevor, our good friend Ashli, and I hit the road with our pup Raven and 7 live chickens in the back seat. We said our goodbyes to my family and headed for one final stop at my nephew Ryan’s home. I had the honor to help with some of his care for the past few months as he fought to beat his colon cancer diagnosis. I couldn’t leave without seeing him, so we headed over with a loaded RV, and of course, my car with my feathered friends tucked in the back seat. I made it dark for them hoping they would sleep the whole way, and they did, almost without a peep. Our little caravan headed out on our trip from Arizona to Colorado.
Running late, we pulled into the Colorado home around 3 am. With lots to do, Trevor, Ashli, and I got right to work unloading what we needed from the RV and the car. The sleepy hens, I’m sure, were happy to get out of their cardboard boxes and safely into the garage kennel we quickly put together. It was time for all of us to get some much-needed sleep.
We were blessed to be able to meet one of Trevor's friends and his family for some R&R in between all the work of unpacking and getting things ready in the home where I would be living while in Bible college. I was going to be a full-time student with a few married couples also student/renters joining me soon. The kids and I worked extremely hard to get everything done in one week while they were here to help. Ashli had to head back home a bit earlier than Trevor, and after she left, he continued to work, finishing the chicken coop they had started. There was so much to do; we had to shop for supplies to build a closet, hang a ceiling fan, and so much more. I couldn't have done it without them and was so grateful they were there to help.
The first renters had already arrived back in May, so we were only able to meet and hang out with them briefly because there was so much work to do. Twelve hours a day of working, eating, and going to bed exhausted! 😩 It was time for Trevor to head back home. I am going to miss my kids, but knowing it was the right timing and will of the Lord, I knew we would all be ok.
Join me again soon, where I will share my testimony that led to this trip and the calling of the Lord who brought me here to Charis. 🦋
